Emergencies Please make sure that we have all of the correct emergency numbers and information on file for your child. If you have a change in number please notify us immediately.
Field Trip information will be coming home at the beginning of the year.
Folder Please check your child’s Homework Folder each night. This is also where you will find a daily behavior log and any notes from me. Any notes for me should be placed in this folder so children know where to find them. We will also send home Tuesday folders containing work and weekly grades, please return on Wednesday.
Grades are given weekly for Reading, Writing, Math, Work Habits and Behavior in the Weekly Folder. These grades will then be averaged for the report cards.
Homework Daily math sheet and 10-15min of reading are required. Spelling or written responses to reading will be required as the year progresses. The homework sheet also includes a reading log, weekly objectives, and class news. Assignments should be handed in the day after they are assigned. Please remind your child to put his/her name on the paper. In general, homework shouldn’t take longer than 20 minutes to complete.
Illness Please keep your child home if he/she has a temperature, has thrown up within 24 hours, or has persistent cough; per health guidelines. It is important that we not spread germs. Please send in a note when your child returns to school.
Jobs When students arrive they have to complete their jobs before going to centers. Their jobs include: going to the bathroom, sharpening pencils, and getting books for Daily 5.
Kindness Students in our classroom are encouraged and expected to treat all members of our school community with kindness and respect. Our school rules are:

Lunch You are welcome to eat with your child. We will have lunch from 12:45-1:10. Please sign in at the main office before going to the cafeteria.
Math We will use a variety of materials to master the concept of numbers up to 999. Students will also learn to count money, tell time, understand simple fractions, add and subtract up to three digit numbers and solve complex word problems.
Newsletters Our class newsletter will be part of the homework sheet that comes home each Monday. It will let you know what is happening in class as well as any reminders or upcoming important dates. Also see website and twitter updates.
Organization I hope to teach the children organizational skills this year. Children are expected to check and empty their take-home folder daily. They are expected to keep track of their belongings and put them where they need to be. I also expect the children to keep their desk and work neat and tidy.
Pen Pals We will correspond with another second grade class this year. This is a fun way to learn about the writing process and make a friend!
Questions or concerns? Please feel free to contact me at any time. I check my email several times a day so that is the best way to get in touch with me.
Read!! Children are expected to read at least 10 minutes each night in the beginning of the year. This number will increase as the year goes on and children increase their reading stamina. They can do this with an adult or by themselves. A new Reading Log comes home each Monday to keep track.
Recess All children will receive 30 minutes of recess per day. They will go outside every day weather permitting. Please make sure that children have the appropriate clothing (especially in the winter!) Please label all jackets, hats, etc. No flip flops are permitted.
Snack Your child may bring in a healthy snack to eat. Children will be able to eat for a short time, so please send something that can be eaten neatly and easily ~ Candy will not be permitted.
Specials- The students will go to specials everyday while magnet down and on Fridays. The specials are Art, Drama, Dance, Technology, PE and Music.
Spelling- We will do word study daily. Students will have several words a week that fit a spelling pattern or sound and we will cover them in class. Please also practice these words at home. These words will then be recorded in their personal dictionaries with the expectation they will be used correctly. They will be included in the weekly newsletter under word study.
Tardy Children arriving after 9:15 are marked tardy. Please stop in at the office to sign your child into school if you arrive after then.
Upper and Lowercase:Children are expected to use correct print formation when writing.
